🐾 Max – Training Tips & Graduation Summary

Stokeshire Designer Doodles – Doodle School Graduate

Overview

Max is a sweet, affectionate puppy who thrives on connection and gentle guidance. Sensitive by nature, he reads people well and responds best to calm, encouraging tones. He quickly picks up on your emotions—both positive and negative—so patience and support are key.

While Max will accept treats, his greatest motivation comes from praise, your tone of voice, and physical affection. He’s made wonderful progress at Doodle School, and with consistent practice at home, he’ll grow into a loving, well-mannered companion.

Crate Training

Progress:

  • More willing to enter when encouraged with a warm voice and gentle guiding hand.

  • Responds better to calm praise than treats when settling.

  • Can remain crated 2–3 hours during the day without an accident if fully eliminated beforehand.

  • Still needs one nighttime potty break.

  • May take a few minutes to settle, especially if household activity is nearby.

Best Practices at Home:

  • Use the cue “kennel” in an upbeat, reassuring tone.

  • Pair crating with calm praise, a pet, or a comfort toy.

  • Keep crate in a quiet, low-traffic area; cover with a blanket if distractions cause restlessness.

  • Include short, calm crate times during the day.

  • Keep middle-of-the-night potty breaks calm and businesslike.

Goal: Gradually build longer stretches of restful crate time while keeping entries positive.

Daily Rhythm

Morning

  • 7:00 AM: Potty immediately upon waking (allow extra time to fully eliminate).

  • 7:15 AM: Breakfast in crate (½ cup Diamond Naturals Salmon & Potato or preferred diet).

  • 7:30–7:45 AM: Post-meal potty break.

  • 8:00–9:00 AM: Supervised free time.

Mid-Morning

  • 9:00 AM: Short training session (praise-focused).

  • 9:15–11:15 AM: Crate nap.

  • 11:15–12:00 PM: Yard play, light leash walk, or short social outing.

Afternoon

  • 12:00 PM: Potty break.

  • 12:15–2:15 PM: Crate rest.

  • 2:15–3:30 PM: Play, scent game, or light obedience practice.

Evening

  • 4:00 PM: Dinner in crate (½ cup).

  • 4:15 PM: Potty break (allow extra time).

  • 4:30–6:30 PM: Supervised free time or gentle leash training.

  • 6:30–8:30 PM: Crate rest alternating with short play.

Night

  • 9:30 PM: Final potty break.

  • Middle of Night: Quick potty trip as needed (low lights, soft voices).

Potty Training

Strategies:

  • Allow plenty of time outside; don’t rush him.

  • Take him out after waking, 10–20 minutes after meals, and after play.

  • Use the same spot and door for consistency.

  • Cue “Go potty” and praise warmly when finished.

  • Plan for one nighttime potty trip until bladder matures.

Goal: Reinforce consistency and patience using praise as the primary motivator.

Leash Manners

  • Sensitive to handler frustration — keep tone warm and walks positive.

  • Gentle leash guidance + verbal praise works best.

  • Keep walks short and confidence-building.

Stair Confidence

  • Still hesitant with stairs — practice short flights.

  • Encourage with a cheerful voice and praise at each step.

  • Allow pauses; avoid forcing movement.

Obedience & Cues

  • Strongest response to touch, eye contact, and verbal affirmation (still offer treats).

  • Continue with 3 short sessions daily (10–15 minutes).

  • Focus: Sit, working on Down, recall in low-distraction areas, polite greetings.

Socialization

  • People-oriented and affectionate.

  • Introduce new experiences gradually, paired with calm encouragement.

Enrichment & Energy Management

  • Mental: Hide-and-seek, scent work, puzzle toys.

  • Physical: Gentle walks, light play, safe socialization.

  • Calm Time: Snuggles and rest to recharge.

Continuing Training

We strongly recommend ongoing professional training. This helps you learn alongside Max, building communication, timing, and trust. Sensitive pups like Max thrive when their people are engaged partners in the process.

Graduation Message

Max has been a joy to work with. His gentle nature, loving heart, and desire to please make him a wonderful companion in the making. With your continued patience, praise, and structure, he will blossom into a confident, well-mannered member of your family.
