Who We Are

A breeding program
built on intention,
not accident.

Stokeshire Designer Doodles is a State of Wisconsin Licensed & Inspected breeding program located in North Central Wisconsin. Founded by James and Katie Stokes, our family-run program exists to produce exceptional companion dogs through intentional genetics, thoughtful early development, and lifelong responsibility for every puppy we bring into the world.

We do not believe great dogs happen by accident. Every puppy's story begins with deliberate choices — where genetics, environment, and education work together to shape calm, capable, and deeply connected companions.

Our goal is simple but demanding: to give each dog the strongest possible foundation for a healthy, joyful, and purposeful life — one marked by emotional stability, trainability, and lifelong companionship within a modern family.

That kind of outcome requires more than good intentions. It requires disciplined design.

I
Chapter I

More than a
decade of deliberate
study.

For more than a decade, the Stokeshire family has invested thousands of hours studying canine genetics, temperament science, and early development. We travel, learn, test, and refine — continually evaluating pairings, environments, and processes to reduce randomness and increase predictability.

Through intentional breeding decisions, we combine proven purebred bloodlines — selecting not just for appearance, but for structure, intelligence, emotional attunement, and real-world adaptability.

A deep fascination with the canine genome — and the remarkable predictability it offers when used responsibly — drives our decision-making. We carefully select dogs from champion, therapy, and service-grade bloodlines to reduce inherited risk and promote long-term health.

We do not breed for volume, trends, or convenience. Each pairing is chosen based on temperament, genetic compatibility, structure, and long-term predictability. Every parent dog is backed by full DNA health panels and OFA certifications.

II
Chapter II

Breeding is only
the beginning.

The Stokeshire program does not end with genetics. We design the entire system surrounding the dog — developmental environments, early neurological work, owner education, and the tools families need to carry that foundation forward.

Before going home, each puppy has spent more than 50 hours being carried, handled, cuddled, and interacted with across a wide range of environments — surrounded daily by the energy, rhythm, and gentle hands of our ten homeschooled children.

This early exposure builds confidence, resilience, and a genuine love for people. The result is puppies who transition smoothly into family homes, schools, therapeutic settings, and active households — not dogs who must "learn" how to live with humans after the fact.

The result is not just a puppy, but a prepared dog entering a prepared home. Every aspect of the Stokeshire Method™ is designed with that outcome in mind.

What Responsible Breeding Requires

Accountability at every stage.

A responsible breeder demonstrates accountability across the entire life of a dog — not just at pickup. This is what that looks like in practice.

I

State Licensing & Inspection

Licensed Wisconsin Breeder 514401-DS. Regular inspection with transparent compliance and public accountability. Not a registration — a regulatory standard.

II

Legitimate Business Operations

Proper entity formation, insurance, and tax compliance. Third-party accountability through the Better Business Bureau and Good Dog. Not a hobby — a program with standards.

III

Comprehensive Health Testing

Intentional genetic selection guided by breed-specific knowledge. OFA certifications and full DNA health panels on all breeding dogs. Collaboration with other ethical breeders within proven pedigrees.

IV

Veterinary Partnership

Documented care protocols — not informal or untracked treatment. Every puppy has a veterinary record before go-home day. Our relationships with veterinary partners are ongoing, not transactional.

V

Home-Based Development

Puppies raised in a home-based developmental environment — not isolated or industrial systems. Early neurological stimulation and structured socialization tailored to real family life. More than 50 hours of hands-on human contact before go-home.

VI

Lifelong Responsibility

Clear contracts, ongoing education, and a lifetime return guarantee. We remain a resource to every family throughout the lifetime of their dog. Our goal is not to sell puppies — it is to steward lives.

Raised With Love

Our home is their
first world.

Every Stokeshire puppy is raised in our home and studio, surrounded daily by the energy, rhythm, and gentle hands of our family. Not a kennel environment. Not a production system. Our home.

This early exposure — to children, to sound, to movement, to human touch — is not incidental. It is architectural. It is designed to produce exactly the outcome our families experience when their dog arrives: a companion who is already at ease in the world.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing a responsible breeder.

How do I choose a responsible dog breeder in Wisconsin?
Look for transparency, licensing, health testing, and a breeder who prioritizes long-term outcomes over volume. Responsible breeders welcome questions, stand behind every puppy they produce, and remain a resource to families throughout the lifetime of the dog — not just at pickup day. At Stokeshire, we consider placement the beginning of the relationship, not the end of it.
Are you licensed and inspected by the State of Wisconsin?
Yes. Stokeshire Designer Doodles operates as a State of Wisconsin Licensed & Inspected breeder. Our license is public record and subject to regular inspection.
Wisconsin Breeder License
514401-DS
Where are your puppies raised?
All puppies are raised in our home — not a kennel, not a studio, not a separate facility. They are surrounded daily by our family, including our ten homeschooled children, across a wide range of environments, sounds, and situations. Each puppy receives more than 50 hours of hands-on human interaction before go-home day.
Do you health test your breeding dogs?
Yes. Genetic screening and thoughtful pairing are foundational to our program. Every breeding dog carries full DNA health panels and OFA certifications appropriate to their breed. We select from champion, therapy, and service-grade bloodlines specifically to reduce inherited risk and promote long-term health across our lines. We also collaborate with other ethical breeders to protect structure, temperament, and long-term outcomes.
How do I apply for a Stokeshire puppy?
Families begin by exploring our program — the Stokeshire Method™, our health guarantee, and our placement process — and then submit an application to join our waitlist. We guide each family through placement based on lifestyle, goals, and temperament fit. We are selective. Not every application results in a placement. That selectivity is part of the standard.
Do you offer delivery or do families have to travel to Wisconsin?
Both options are available. Families are welcome to pick up in person at our program in Medford, Wisconsin, or at Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA). We also offer hand-delivery throughout the United States via in-cabin flight nanny — your puppy travels with a Stokeshire team member, never in cargo. International placements are also available to select destinations. We quote your exact route before you commit to delivery.
Welcome to Stokeshire

Your puppy's story
begins with purpose.

If you believe dogs deserve to be raised with intention, compassion, and excellence — we would be honored to welcome you into the Stokeshire family.
