The Short Answer

Mini and Micro, defined.

Mini Bernedoodle

At Stokeshire, a Mini Bernedoodle is a Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle cross in our Mini class: typically 26 to 35 lb and 14 to 17 in at the shoulder.

Our program draws on Miniature Poodle and multigenerational Mini lines, with smaller Bernese as part of our approach. Adult weight is an estimate rather than a guarantee and may vary based on parentage, sex, generation, and individual development.

Typical lifespan
Not yet measured; smaller dogs tend to live longer
Coat
Wavy to curly, with shedding that varies by puppy. Parents' furnishings (RSPO2) and curl (KRT71) results help inform coat estimates, not promises.

Micro and Micro Mini Bernedoodle

Familiar names for smaller dogs, not separate classes in our size standard.

Looking for a Micro or Micro Mini Bernedoodle? Start with expected adult size and breed composition. At Stokeshire, 25 lb and under falls in the Petite class (16 to 25 lb) or the Toy class (up to 15 lb). You may also see the term Teacup.

Our Petite-range Munchkin program has a different breed composition, explained below. We prioritize health and sound structure rather than extreme miniaturization.

The Stokeshire Doodle Size Standard

How big is a Mini Bernedoodle?

Use our published size standard to compare expected adult weights. Mini is 26 to 35 lb. Micro and Teacup are labels, not additional Stokeshire classes, and Ultra describes ancestry rather than size. Explore Doodle Sizes for the full standard or Bernedoodle Sizes for the breed-specific guide.

Medium36 to 50 lbMedium Bernedoodle. A Mini Ultra pairing may target this class.
Standard51 lb and up, typically 70 to 90Standard Bernedoodle. See the Bernedoodle guide.

Adult weight is an estimate rather than a guarantee and may vary based on parentage, sex, generation, and individual development. Ultra is a marketing term for ancestry, not a size class: an Ultra Bernedoodle is expected to be more than half Bernese Mountain Dog. More Bernese ancestry usually means a larger dog, but adult size depends on the size of the parents.

Bernese-Forward Minis

Mini Ultra Bernedoodles: more Bernese, planned under 50 pounds.

Ultra is a marketing term for ancestry, not a size class: an Ultra Bernedoodle is expected to be more than half Bernese Mountain Dog. More Bernese ancestry usually means a larger dog, but adult size depends on the size of the parents. Our Mini Ultra goal is that Bernese-forward ancestry in a dog planned to finish under 50 lb.

Starting with smaller Bernese is part of our approach to retaining more Bernese ancestry while working toward a smaller adult dog. A pairing may target the Mini class (26 to 35 lb) or Medium class (36 to 50 lb). Not every Mini litter is a Mini Ultra pairing: check the individual litter page for the announced parents and expected size.

  1. 01

    A smaller Bernese foundation.

We begin with Bernese from the smaller end of the breed's range and select Poodle and multigenerational lines for each pairing. Health screening and structure remain part of the decision.

  2. 02

    Parentage you can review.

Available parent Embark breed breakdowns are linked on Our Dogs. Each litter page identifies its pairing and expected size once the parents are set.

  3. 03

    Size and coat are estimates.

An ancestry label does not guarantee adult weight, shedding, or coat. Coat follows specific genes, not the Bernese percentage, so we use the individual pairing and the parents' coat results to inform expectations, and we keep those expectations specific to the litter.

We start with smaller Bernese to reduce the amount of Poodle.

Future Mother

Posie

Posie, formally ร‰poisses, joined Stokeshire in October 2026. Her name continues our tradition of naming girls for cheeses. This young multigenerational Mini Bernedoodle is a future breeding prospect, not an announced mother for the 2027 litter. Her health screening must be completed before breeding, and her Embark profile will be shared when results are available.

Bernese Mountain Dog Mother

Emme

Emme is short for Emmental: SDD Emmental Stokes Major-Jiggy. A purebred Bernese Mountain Dog mother in our program, she represents the Bernese side of our breeding plans. Her Embark breed breakdown and genetic health panel are linked on Our Dogs.

Health Screening

Screened before any pairing.

Before a pairing is planned, every Stokeshire breeding dog is genetically tested through Embark, and families can review the results on the parents' public Embark profiles. Hip and elbow evaluations are recorded with OFA where completed.

Completed OFA records, and any PennHIP, cardiac, or ophthalmologic records a dog has, are provided to approved applicants alongside the applicable agreement and health guarantee.

No health-testing program can eliminate every genetic or developmental risk. These screenings are used to inform pairing decisions and reduce avoidable inherited risk wherever current testing and pedigree information allow.

Genetic health coverage runs up to 36 months; terms are on the Health Guarantee page. Inherited risks across the cross are covered in Bernedoodle Health and Lifespan.

Stokeshire is a Good Dog Certified breeder. Our program has completed Good Dog's breeder screening process and meets its community standards for responsible breeding practices.

Coat Colors and Patterns

Bernedoodle colors, from our own dogs.

Every Bernedoodle color starts with the Bernese tricolor. The rest depends on the genes each parent carries, which Embark testing shows before a pairing is planned. Color and size are inherited separately, so a Mini can carry any of these coats.

Feta, Bernese Mountain Dog

The starting point for every Bernedoodle color.

The breed's coat is a black tricolor: rust over the eyes and on the cheeks, chest, and legs, with a white blaze, chest, and feet.

How it's inheritedA Bernese almost always passes on black, so first-generation (F1) Bernedoodle puppies are black-based.

Lรบthien, F1B Mini Bernedoodle

The classic Bernedoodle look.

A black coat with tan points over the eyes and on the cheeks and legs, usually with white on the face, chest, and paws.

How it's inheritedTan points show only when a puppy inherits the tan-point gene from both parents and no dominant black, so some litters have tri puppies and others have none.

Brown tri

Chocolate ยท tan points ยท white

Rico, an F1B brown tri Bernedoodle, framed in a copper hexagon
Rico, F1B brown tri Bernedoodle

The black areas become brown, and the nose is brown to match.

How it's inheritedBrown is recessive, so a puppy is brown only with brown from both parents. Few Bernese carry brown, so brown tri appears from the second generation on, when both sides of the pairing carry it.

Parti and tri parti

Mostly white ยท color patches
An F1B Medium Bernedoodle puppy, mostly white with black patches
F1B Medium Bernedoodle puppy

Mostly white, with patches of color.

Parti means more than half white, with patches of black or brown. A tri parti adds tan points. The amount of white varies, even among littermates.

How it's inheritedParti usually shows only when a puppy inherits the parti gene from both parents, so both sides of the pairing must carry it.

Blue merle

Gray marbling ยท black patches
An F1B Medium Bernedoodle puppy with a blue merle coat, tan points, and white markings
F1B Medium Bernedoodle puppy

Marbled gray on a black coat.

Merle lightens pigment in random patches, turning a black coat gray, called blue, with black patches. It can also turn one or both eyes blue. With tan points and white, it is a blue merle tri.

How it's inheritedMerle is not part of the Bernese breed, so a merle puppy needs a parent that carries merle. One copy is enough to show the pattern.

Red merle

Copper marbling ยท brown patches
An F1B Medium Bernedoodle puppy with a red merle coat and white markings
F1B Medium Bernedoodle puppy

The same merle pattern on a brown coat.

Lighter copper and tan marbling with darker brown patches, often with white and tan points.

How it's inheritedIt needs merle from one parent and brown from both.

Photos show Stokeshire dogs and puppies from earlier years. Coat color and pattern can affect a puppy's price; see Puppy Pricing. Phantom, sable, and the genetics behind each color are covered in Bernedoodle Colors and Patterns.

Guardian Homes

Another way to bring a Stokeshire dog home.

Many Stokeshire breeding dogs live as family companions in guardian homes. Families within 120 miles of Medford, Wisconsin, may apply to raise a future mother. She returns to Stokeshire for breeding and whelping, we cover breeding-related veterinary care, and she remains with her family after retirement.

Guardian placements are offered at a reduced price or, for select dogs, at no placement cost. Review the program commitments before applying.

Frequently Asked

Mini Bernedoodle questions.

Questions about size, timing, or the right fit for your home? Schedule a call or email hello@wisconsindesignerdoodles.com.

What is a Mini Bernedoodle?

At Stokeshire, a Mini Bernedoodle is a Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle cross in our Mini class: typically 26 to 35 lb and 14 to 17 in at the shoulder. Our program uses Miniature Poodle and multigenerational Mini lines, with smaller Bernese as part of our approach. Adult size is an estimate, not a guarantee.

What is a Micro Mini Bernedoodle?

Micro and Micro Mini are labels used for smaller Bernedoodles, not separate classes in our size standard. At Stokeshire, 25 lb and under falls in Petite (16 to 25 lb) or Toy (up to 15 lb). Our Munchkin program targets the Petite class and includes Cavalier King Charles Spaniel ancestry, so it is a different cross from our Mini Bernedoodles. We do not breed for extreme miniaturization.

What is a Mini Ultra Bernedoodle?

Ultra is a marketing term for ancestry, not a size class: an Ultra Bernedoodle is expected to be more than half Bernese Mountain Dog. More Bernese ancestry usually means a larger dog, but adult size depends on the size of the parents. A Mini Ultra is an Ultra planned to finish under 50 lb, and we start with smaller Bernese as part of that approach. A pairing may target the Mini or Medium class; Mini Ultra is not a guarantee of final weight. Not every Mini litter is a Mini Ultra pairing. Check the individual litter page for its announced parents and size estimate.

How big do Mini Bernedoodles get?

Our Mini class is 26 to 35 lb and typically 14 to 17 in at the shoulder. A Mini Ultra pairing may instead target the Medium class, 36 to 50 lb, with under 50 lb as the goal. Puppy-specific projections are based on lineage and growth. Adult weight is an estimate rather than a guarantee and may vary based on parentage, sex, generation, and individual development.

How much does a Mini Bernedoodle cost?

Mini Bernedoodle placements have a planning range of $4,000 to $6,500+. Petite and Toy placements, 25 lb and under, are $5,000 to $8,000+. Final pricing is confirmed at match and may reflect the individual puppy's coat, pattern, and evaluation. Optional training, delivery, and applicable tax are additional. See Puppy Pricing for current details and Bernedoodle Cost for the broader cost guide.

When is your next Mini Bernedoodle litter?

Our next Mini Bernedoodle litter is planned for 2027, with numbered waitlist positions reserved by deposit. This is a future-litter plan, not a confirmed birth or go-home date. Check your litter page for pairing and timing updates; major milestones are also shared by email. Carry-forward and transfer arrangements follow the applicable reservation terms.

How does the $500 deposit work?

The $500 deposit, plus tax, reserves a numbered waitlist position and applies toward your puppy's price. Under the published policy, 90% of the reservation fee is refundable before breeding. The fee becomes non-refundable after breeding has occurred, meaning documented artificial insemination or live cover, not pregnancy confirmation. Review the reservation and refund policy and the agreement presented at checkout before paying. Pick of the Litter is a separate $500 fee with its own terms.

Are Mini Bernedoodles hypoallergenic?

No dog can be guaranteed allergy-safe. Lower shedding is not the same as being allergen-free: dog allergens are present in dander and saliva, not only in hair. Some Mini Bernedoodles have lower-shedding coats, but coat and individual tolerance vary. We do not promise a particular allergy outcome. Read our guide to shedding and coat genetics before making a decision.

What health testing do the parents have?

Before a pairing is planned, every Stokeshire breeding dog is genetically tested through Embark, and families can review the results on the parents' public Embark profiles. Hip and elbow evaluations are recorded with OFA where completed. No health-testing program can eliminate every genetic or developmental risk. These screenings are used to inform pairing decisions and reduce avoidable inherited risk wherever current testing and pedigree information allow.

Public Embark profiles on Our Dogs let families independently review genetic testing. Completed OFA records, and any PennHIP, cardiac, or ophthalmologic records a dog has, are provided to approved applicants alongside the applicable agreement and health guarantee. Genetic health coverage runs up to 36 months; terms are on the Health Guarantee page.

Can you deliver a Mini Bernedoodle to my state?

Yes, with travel arranged for the individual puppy and route. We do not ship puppies as cargo. U.S. in-cabin flight nanny delivery starts at approximately $1,550 plus tax; puppies too large for in-cabin travel need a ground or custom hand-delivery arrangement. Ground and international routes are quoted individually. Pickup in Medford is also welcome. See Transport for current options.

Is a Mini Bernedoodle a good apartment or family dog?

A Mini Bernedoodle may suit apartment or family life when the puppy's temperament and the household's routine are a good match. Daily outdoor activity, training, enrichment, and supervised time with children matter more than a size label alone. We use temperament evaluations to guide matching rather than assuming every Mini will suit every home. Read more in Bernedoodle Personality.

How is a Mini Bernedoodle different from a Munchkin Bernedoodle?

The difference is breed composition as well as target size. Our Mini Bernedoodle combines Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle ancestry and targets 26 to 35 lb. Our Munchkin Bernedoodle introduces Cavalier King Charles Spaniel genetics across generations and targets the Petite class, 16 to 25 lb. Both deserve a conversation about the individual puppy and your household.

Can my puppy be trained before coming home?

Yes. Families may enroll their puppy in 4-Week Doodle School, our optional training program completed before go-home, at $200 per day. It is a structured beginning, not a promise that training is finished for life. Space is limited per litter and offered to waitlist families first; confirm availability before planning your puppy's homecoming.
