Our breeding collection is built deliberately across generations, selecting dogs for health, temperament, structure, genetic diversity, coat characteristics, and the qualities we believe are worth carrying forward. This is where the Stokeshire Method™ begins.

A beautiful dog is not automatically a breeding dog. Before a dog contributes to the Stokeshire program, we look beyond appearance to the qualities that shape the companion a family will live with: genetic health, behavioral stability, structure, trainability, recovery, coat inheritance, and compatibility with the larger breeding population.
Before a pairing is planned, every Stokeshire breeding dog is genetically tested through Embark, and those results are public on each dog’s profile below. Hip and elbow evaluations are recorded with OFA where completed, and those records are shared with approved applicants. No health-testing program can eliminate every risk; screening informs our pairing decisions.
OFA certificates and veterinary documents are not posted publicly because they contain personal information.
Every dog carries something. A full genetic panel across 270 or more conditions will find a variant in most dogs of any breed, and a program that shows you a roster with nothing to disclose is either not testing or not telling. We list every flagged variant a dog carries, in the words Embark uses, and we pair around it. One copy of a recessive variant makes a dog a carrier, not a patient; a carrier bred to a clear partner cannot produce an affected puppy for that condition.

Health and genetics
Genetic information is used to evaluate risk, compatibility, diversity, and inherited traits, not to earn a badge.
Temperament
Emotionally stable dogs that recover well, engage with people, tolerate handling, and suit their role in the program.
Structure and function
Size, movement, proportion, and soundness, with the strengths and weaknesses of each line considered before a pairing is planned.
Across generations
A litter is not an isolated event. We weigh what each dog contributes to the generations that may follow.

Carrier
One copy of a recessive variant. Not affected. Bred only to a clear partner for that gene.
At risk
A variant with a dominant or additive effect, or a risk-based score. Disclosed and managed by pairing and veterinary guidance.
COI
Genetic coefficient of inbreeding measured by Embark. Lower is more diverse. Our goal is a projected litter COI of 15 percent or under for every pairing.
DLA
Immune-gene diversity at two loci. High on both is the goal; low on either is a pairing consideration.
Coat genes
RSPO2 furnishings (F), KRT71 curl (T), MC5R shedding (T). These set the coat, not the dog's health.

A Stokeshire companion is the product of many decisions made before birth: the lines we preserve, the risks we avoid, the temperament we seek, the environment we provide, and the puppy we match to your family. You do not need to become a canine geneticist to choose well. That is our job.
For every litter pairing, we provide both parents’ Embark results, along with genetic compatibility and Punnett square analysis relevant to the pairing.
