🐶 Mika’s Customized Doodle School Curriculum

Specialty Modules

  • Water = Fun:
Short positive sessions with a kiddie pool and textured mat to introduce water play. Builds curiosity & reduces caution for easier pool training once home.

  • SUV Crate Conditioning:
Short rides in a secured crate in the back of our SUV to acclimate Mika to traveling in a crate, reducing stress for his extended road trip or flights.

Core Curriculum

  • Daily structure: crate nap times, potty intervals every 30-45 min when free, feeding inside crate.

  • Socialization with new environments, people, and sounds.

  • Basic leash walking and exposure to neighborhood distractions.

  • Foundational cues: sit, come, down, stay, quiet, and “no” with gentle redirection.

  • Regular updates via Google Hangout/Meet video chats, plus shared progress photos.

Internal Note for Karlee – Mika’s Mealtime Routine

Mika has been eating meals in his crate during Week 1 of Doodle School as part of our standard early training protocol. However, his family prefers to transition him to eating outside the crate once he’s home, similar to their other dogs. Please discontinue crate-feeding for Mika starting in Week 2 and begin transitioning him to eating outside the crate in a calm, distraction-free space. Focus on maintaining polite manners (waiting, no rushing) while reinforcing name use and handler engagement.

Let us know if you observe any hesitation or challenges during the transition.

🏠 What to Expect When Mika Comes Home

  • Crate Routine: Mika will see his crate as a safe space, sleeping through most of the night with one brief overnight potty.

  • Potty Training: Still learning—expect to continue potty breaks every 30–45 minutes when out and regular trips immediately after crate time.

  • Basic Commands: He’ll respond to his name, sit, come, down, stay, and gentle “no.”

  • Social Personality: Expect an affectionate, curious pup ready to explore Napa with you!

  • Next Veterinary Needs: We will provide a full vaccination record ahead of your first Silverado Vet appointment on August 26, so they can prepare for your upcoming boosters.

Mika’s Transition Plan

Mika’s Transition Plan

Welcome home, Mika! This guide outlines what to expect during the first week, how to adapt his schedule to Pacific Time, and how to keep his training and progress on track.

Transition Period

Mika has completed 5 weeks of foundational training. You can expect a brief 1-week adjustment period as he acclimates to your home, routine, and handlers. Consistency, structure, and patience will help maintain his progress and confidence.

Time Zone Shift (CDT → PDT)

It’s okay to shift Mika’s schedule immediately to PDT. Prioritize consistency in structure and activity order rather than matching clock times.

Evening Routine (PDT Targets)

  • After-Dinner Potty Breaks: 6:00 PM, 7:30 PM, 9:00 PM
  • Last Water Offering: 6:00 PM
  • High-Energy Play: 7:00–7:30 PM
  • Final Potty Break: 10:00–10:15 PM
  • Wind-Down: 9:00–10:30 PM
  • Crate Bedtime: 10:30–11:00 PM

Morning Routine

  • Wake-Up & Potty: 6:30–7:00 AM
  • Breakfast: 6:45 AM
  • Training Sessions: 8:00 AM & 2:30 PM (~45 mins each)
  • “Brunch” via Training Rewards: Late morning
  • Dinner: 5:30 PM

Nap Windows

  • 8:15–10:15 AM
  • 12:00–2:30 PM
  • 8:00–9:00 PM (quiet time)

Potty vs. House Training

  • Potty Training: Score 9 – Consistently eliminates outside. Minimal accidents.
  • House Training: Score 5 – Developing awareness indoors. Supervised freedom only.
Mika can hold it for 2–3 hours during the day and up to 8 hours overnight. Accidents may occur during transitions—0–2 per week is normal.

Eating Outside the Crate

Mika is making great progress with “sit and wait” manners. We suggest continuing crate meals for his first week at home. After that, transition gradually using this pattern:

  • Ask for “Sit” inside crate
  • Place food bowl just outside crate door
  • Open door & give “Break” command
  • Reward calm approach and eating

Training Cues

To ensure continuity, here are the cues Mika has learned so far:

  • “Mika, come” – Recall
  • “Sit” – Sit down
  • “Down” – Lie down
  • “Wait” – Stay at door, food, crate
  • “Go Potty” – Eliminate outside
  • “Break” – Release cue
  • “Crate” – Go into crate
  • “Leave it” – Stop and ignore
  • “Drop it” – Release item
  • “Settle” – Calm, lie down in crate or mat

Mika has not yet begun formal training for “Place” or “Heel.”

Final Notes

The first week is about bonding, structure, and creating a safe, predictable routine. You’re laying the foundation for Mika’s long-term success.

We’re always here for questions, encouragement, or training tips. Wishing you a beautiful first week with Mika!
