Coat & Size

Coat TypeUnfurnished, a traditional long, straight double coat. Neither parent has Poodle ancestry, and both test unfurnished and straight-coated, so every puppy in this litter has the classic Bernese and Australian Shepherd coat, without a doodle beard or eyebrows.
SheddingSheds regularly, with heavier seasonal sheds, as is typical of Bernese Mountain Dog and Australian Shepherd coats. This is not a lower-shedding coat. Families with allergies should discuss coat type before selecting.
GroomingWeekly brushing, more often during seasonal sheds, and occasional bathing. No routine clipping, so routine grooming costs run lower than for a doodle coat.
ColorBlue Merle Tri. One copy of the merle allele from the sire over a black base, with tan points and white trim that varies by puppy. Emme is B/B, so every puppy is black-based, with black rather than liver pigment on the nose and eye rims. Tan points come from at/at with ky/ky, and both parents are E/E and D/D, so there is no recessive red and no dilution. The dam carries no merle, so there is no double-merle risk in this pairing. Merle patterning can shift subtly as the adult coat grows in.
