Stokeshire Puppy Prep — Read More

A simple, interactive space to explore the most common new-family questions. Choose a category, then open any card.

Why does Stokeshire recommend fish-based food?
Over time we’ve seen puppies thrive best on fish as their primary protein. It’s gentle on digestion and, paired with Salmon Oil, supports healthy skin and coats with fewer sensitivities.
✨ Pro Tip: The most common nutrition mistake is switching proteins too often. Stability wins.
Can I switch my puppy's food right away?
We don’t encourage switching during the first transition period. Rapid changes are the fastest way to cause tummy trouble and loose stools.
How should I use treats?
Less is more. Use your puppy’s kibble as the main training reward and introduce new treats slowly. Avoid layering lots of extra proteins, toppers, or “people food.”
✨ Pro Tip: Treats are a tool, not a second meal.
Do you recommend pre- and probiotics?
Yes. We’re big fans of a simple, consistent pre- and probiotic routine. We’ll share exactly what we’re using so you can mirror what’s already working.
Has she slept in a crate yet?
Yes. Your puppy is introduced to the crate with short, positive sessions. The crate is presented as a safe, calm den — never a punishment.
Has potty training started?
Absolutely. Once puppies are mobile, we begin structured routines and clear potty zones. Your puppy won’t be fully house-trained, but she’ll understand the basics.
What kind of foundations will she come home with?
Crate time, potty routines, gentle handling, basic name recognition, and confidence-building exposure. Doodle School builds on this with more structure and duration.
What if my puppy cries the first night?
Totally normal. Expect 1–3 adjustment nights.
✨ Pro Tip: A worn T-shirt in the crate + a clear bedtime routine helps a lot.
When does Doodle School start and what does it include?
Doodle School begins the day your puppy would normally go home. It focuses on crate training, potty progress, leash work, basic manners, confidence-building, and calm in everyday environments.
What vaccines has she had?
Multiple dewormings + first core vaccine (DHLPP) around 6 weeks. Boosters are typically due at ~8 and ~12 weeks, with Rabies usually at 16–20 weeks per local law.
When should I schedule her first vet visit?
Within 72 hours of pickup. This visit is required for your 3-Year Health & Wellness Guarantee and establishes a baseline with your vet.
Is she microchipped?
Yes — all Stokeshire puppies are microchipped before go-home. You’ll receive instructions to register your contact details.
Can you send vet records directly to my veterinarian?
We don’t send records directly to clinics. Instead, we keep everything organized for you in one place. Access your documents through VIP Puppy Experiences and bring copies to your first appointment.
What if I need extra time before pickup?
We offer short-term extended care as space allows. Puppies can’t stay beyond 9 weeks without enrollment in Doodle School, so reach out early if you foresee a delay.
Do you offer transport?
Yes — curated options including ground delivery and in-cabin flight nanny services. Availability is limited (especially around holidays), so explore options early.
Can we FaceTime or have a virtual visit before pickup?
Yes — virtual visits are part of our VIP Puppy Experiences.
What do I need to buy before she comes home?
We keep an up-to-date, shoppable prep guide on our website so you always have the latest recommendations: What Should I Purchase for My Doodle Puppy?
What grooming tools should I have ready?
At minimum: a quality slicker brush, metal comb, gentle puppy shampoo, and conditioner. Regular brushing (2–3x per week) helps prevent mats and keeps the coat healthy.

FAQ

  • Yes. By the time your puppy goes home, she will have been gently introduced to crate time as part of our early training and confidence-building routine.
We use short, positive crate sessions to help puppies learn that the crate is a safe, calm place—not a punishment. This early exposure significantly reduces first-night anxiety and helps with smoother transitions into your home.

  • Yes. Your puppy will arrive with the foundations of potty training already started.
From the time puppies become mobile, we begin structured potty-area conditioning, outdoor exposure (weather-permitting), and consistent routines that teach them where to go and when.
At this age, they will not be fully trained yet—but they will understand the basics and pick up your home routine much more quickly. **Please remove all mats or rugs and reduce play area to hard flooring.

  • Training begins the day she would normally go home.
Your puppy stays with our team for the selected program and continues crate training, potty work, socialization, leash manners, obedience foundations, and confidence-building.

  • Your puppy receives:

    • Multiple rounds of deworming

    • DHLPP at 6 weeks

    • Additional boosters due at ~8 and ~12 weeks

    • Rabies typically at 16–20 weeks (varies by state/local law)

Your CVI (vet health certificate) is downloadable on your Litter Documents page.

  • We don’t recommend switching your puppy away from fish-based formulas during the transition period — and ideally, not at all in the first several months.
We’ve tested many diets over the years, and fish as the primary protein consistently gives us the best results: calmer digestion, fewer sensitivities, and incredible coat health when paired with Salmon Oil.

The biggest feeding mistake families make is introducing too many new foods or treats too quickly. Puppies thrive on consistency. Less is more.

For treats, we strongly recommend using their regular kibble or single-ingredient options. Avoid adding multiple proteins, toppers, or rich “people foods,” as this often leads to stomach upset and unnecessary vet visits.

We’re also big believers in pre- and probiotics, and after extensive trialing, we’ve found a simple, stable routine works best. We’ll share what we use and recommend once you complete checkout, so you can continue exactly what your puppy is thriving on today.
