Transporting a puppy in a car requires a few essential items to ensure the safety and comfort of the puppy during the journey. Here are some things you may need:

  1. A suitable crate or carrier: You will need a crate or carrier that is large enough for your puppy to stand up, lie down, and turn around comfortably. Make sure the crate or carrier is secure and won't slide around in the car. You are welcome to have a passenger hold your puppy throughout the journey. We’ve found that this is a great opportunity to bond with your puppy.

  2. A harness and leash: Use a harness and leash to secure your puppy when you let them out to go to the bathroom.

  3. Water and food: Bring a small amount of water and food with you, in case your puppy gets hungry or thirsty during the journey. We limit consumption during transport to help reduce the potential for accidents.

  4. Puppy pads or towels: In case of any accidents or spills, bring some puppy pads or towels to clean up messes and keep the crate or carrier clean. Your puppy pack will include a few pee pads for the journey.

  5. Toys or chew treats: To keep your puppy calm and distracted during the journey, bring along some toys or chew treats that they enjoy. View our Amazon list for ideas!

  6. Window shades: Consider getting some window shades for your car to help regulate the temperature and prevent your puppy from getting too hot or cold.

Remember to take breaks during your journey to allow your puppy to stretch their legs, use the bathroom, and have some water and food for longer trips. Additionally, never leave your puppy alone in a parked car, as this can be dangerous and even fatal, especially in hot weather. Furthermore, avoid places with high foot and paw traffic before your puppy is fully vaccinated to reduce the risk of contracting potential diseases.
