What is an Australian Mountain Doodle?

The Australian Mountain Doodle is a designer breed that gracefully combines the friendly nature of the Bernese Mountain Dog, the intelligence and low-shedding qualities of the Poodle, and the energetic spirit of the Australian Shepherd. The result is a highly intelligent, friendly, and allergy-friendly dog that is easy to train.

The Australian Mountain Doodle differs from a Bernedoodle in their energy levels and the diversity of coat colors. The inclusion of the Australian Shepherd in the breed mix results in a more energetic dog and introduces the beautiful blue merle & red merle color, a light gray coat with darker patches of gray, into the breed.

Care and Grooming Needs

Australian Mountain Doodles come in a range of coatsβ€”straight, wavy, or curly. Regardless of the type, Mountain Doodle coats require regular brushing to prevent matting and tangles. While they're known for being low-shedding, they will still need regular grooming to keep their coats in top condition.

In terms of exercise, these dogs crave both physical exercise and mental stimulation. Regular walks or play sessions, combined with puzzle toys or training exercises, will keep your Australian Mountain Doodle happy and healthy.

Health Considerations

While Australian Mountain Doodles are generally healthy dogs, they share the same health considerations as their parent breeds. Regular vet check-ups and a balanced diet will go a long way in ensuring your Australian Mountain Doodle lives a long and healthy life.

One of the biggest selling points of the Australian Mountain Doodle is that they're allergy-friendly. Thanks to their Poodle heritage, these dogs shed very little, making them a good choice for individuals with allergies.

Training and Behavior

Australian Mountain Doodles are highly intelligent and eager to please, making them relatively easy to train. They respond well to positive reinforcement techniques and benefit from early socialization.

Their friendly and outgoing nature also makes them great family dogs. They get along well with children and other pets, making them a perfect addition to any family.

Why Australian Mountain Doodles are a Good Choice

Australian Mountain Doodles are more than just pets. They are companions, family members, and therapy dogs. Their friendly demeanor and intelligence make them excellent candidates for therapy work, and their easy-going nature means they fit seamlessly into family life. Moreover, their low-shedding, allergy-friendly coats make them a suitable choice for families with allergy sufferers.

As we continue our breeding program at Stokeshire Designer Doodles, we plan on introducing more blue merle Australian Mountain Doodles to our litters. We're excited about the potential of these new and exciting breeds and can't wait to share them with the world.

The Standard Australian Mountain Doodle is a large, energetic, and intelligent breed that is known for its ability to adapt to a variety of environments and tasks. They require regular grooming to maintain their coat, which may include brushing, bathing, and professional grooming. The Australian Mountain Doodle is different from the Australian Bernedoodle. Australian Mountain Doodles have Australian bloodlines. Our AMD puppies take three generations to produce, but they're worth the wait. They have low-shedding genes and combine traits from Australian Shepherds and Bernese Mountain Dogs. They improve the Bernese lifespan and have a lower energy level than standard Aussiedoodles. Our AMDs have diverse coats and are family-friendly. They're bred to Bowser, our Multi-Gen Poodle Coated Bernedoodle Stud. We aim to breed intelligent and beautiful doodle puppies that are healthier than their purebred grandparents. We offer different coat types. Standard Australian Mountain Doodles need large homes and prefer colder climates. They enjoy spending time with their families.

QUICK FACTS ABOUT Australian mountain doodles

  • Our Australian Mountain Doodles come in a variety of sizes. The best indicator of size is the size of the parents. We predict the weight of all of our puppies using an equation that gives us the best estimate for adult weight.

Male Standard Australian Mountain Doodles average 60-100 lbs and average 18-27 inches tall at healthy adult weight. Female Australian Mountain Doodles will weigh on average 50-80 lbs and will average 15-25 inches tall.

We use Miniature American Shepherds, Toy Poodles, and Mulitgen Bernese to decrease the size of our Mini Australian Mountain Doodle puppies to get them less than 50lbs and 20 inches tall.

Our focus is to produce medium size dogs that are around 40-50lbs.

    Our AMD Standards:

    STANDARD AUSTRALIAN MOUNTAIN DOODLES (AMD)

    Height: 20 -28 Inches

    Weight: 50 + lbs

    MINI AUSTRALIAN MOUNTAIN DOODLES (AMD)

    Height: Less than 20 inches

    Weight: Less than 50 lbs

  • At Stokeshire, we breed for what we consider to be a standard doodle coat, which is wavy. We want our puppies to have one copy of the furnishing and one copy of curl.

  • Australian Mountain Doodles can come in a variety of different colors, however, we intentionally breed for a blue or red merle tri-coat.

  • Australian Mountain Doodles are eager to please and are generally food motivated with a high human focus. This partnered with their high intelligence makes them great candidates for our Doodle School program.

  • Australian Mountain Doodles require a moderate level of exercise and mental stimulation to maintain a healthy weight. Tug-of-war, walks, frisbee, and biking with your dog are some of the ways to expend energy. Overall, Australian Shepherds and their smaller cousins, Miniature American Shepherds (Aussies) are generally fairly active and require a purpose to their everyday lives. Bernese Mountain Dogs can be found lounging and have smaller exertions of energy. Lastly, poodles come in varying degrees of activity levels based on size and lineage. Puppy assessments and parentage can best determine the overall activity level of an individual AMD puppy.

  • The Australian Mountain Doodle is the perfect blend between a laidback Bernese, an intelligent allergy-friendly Poodle, and the sporty emotionally attuned Aussie.

Our goal for our Australian Mountain Doodles is to reduce the overall energy level of the Aussiedoodle while increasing the lifespan of the Bernedoodle.

Additionally, we believe the coat structure and texture of an AMD is preferable.

At Stokeshire we wanted the intelligent, eager-to-please, sporty Australian Shepherd heritage to complement the easy-going, gentle nature, of Bernese Mountain Dog. This all partnered with the iconic temperament, trainability, and loyalty of poodles of all sizes.

We uniquely use multiple sizes or poodles and Australian Shepherds to bring down the overall size of the Australian Mountain Doodles.
