The Australian Mountain Dog—sometimes called a Bernese Aussie Cross or Bernaussie—is a thoughtfully developed blend of the Bernese Mountain Dog’s loyalty and calm with the Australian Shepherd’s intelligence and athleticism. First bred here in the Midwest, this hybrid was created to preserve the affectionate, family-focused temperament of the Bernese while introducing greater trainability, health, and longevity through the Aussie line.

Australian Mountain Dogs are medium to large, typically ranging from 60–90 lbs, with coats that are wavy to straight and often display striking tri or merle patterns. They are social, intuitive companions who thrive on both adventure and connection. Their balanced energy, low-to-moderate shedding, and gentle, loyal nature make them an ideal fit for active families, therapy work, or life on the farm.
