Stokeshire Pairing Profile
Clementine ร George: Interactive Summary
A Bernedoodle pairing of two Bernedoodle parents. Clementine is the dam, a Bernese-forward Bernedoodle. George is the sire, a first-generation Bernese Mountain Dog and Standard Poodle cross. Both parents test unfurnished, so this is an unfurnished litter with a Bernese look and a shedding coat. Tap each section below to explore health results, diversity context, coat character, and color genetics with interactive Punnett squares and percentage wheels.
Health
Key Conditions Screened (Both Clear)
- Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)
- Von Willebrand Disease Type I
- Progressive Retinal Atrophy (prcd)
- Intervertebral Disc Disease, Type I (CDDY)
- Neonatal Encephalopathy with Seizures (NEWS)
- GM2 Gangliosidosis (Poodle variant)
- Osteochondrodysplasia (Poodle variant)
- MDR1 Drug Sensitivity
Both parents are clear on every condition above, so no puppy is expected to inherit these tested variants. Embark's Pair Predictor expects all puppies clear on the 7 breed-relevant conditions.
Every Stokeshire breeding dog receives genetic screening through Embark, including MDR1 status, so that result is known before a pairing is planned. Families should share their dog's MDR1 status with their veterinarian when medications are being considered.
One Notable Result (George) Not a Disease Risk
George carries one copy of a variant associated with lower ALT activity. ALT is a liver enzyme veterinarians read on routine bloodwork, and this variant means a dog may naturally run a lower ALT baseline. Embark states dogs with this result do not show symptoms or develop health issues from it. About half the litter may inherit his copy. Families should tell their veterinarian, because it helps them read future bloodwork accurately.
Note: Genetic testing does not diagnose disease and does not replace veterinary evaluation. Results reflect tested variants only. No health-testing program can eliminate every genetic or developmental risk. These screenings are used to inform pairing decisions and reduce avoidable inherited risk wherever current testing allows. Both parents' Embark profiles are public and linked below.
Inbreeding & Diversity
Context: Crossing distinct breed lines can increase genetic diversity and may reduce the likelihood that some recessive inherited conditions are expressed. It does not eliminate genetic disease or the health considerations present in the parent breeds. Clementine's 20% comes from her breeder's lines, not from a Stokeshire pairing. Embark's Pair Predictor estimates this litter at about 14%, lower than Clementine's own 20% and within our goal of 15% or under for every pairing. The figure is an estimate, and each puppy's own COI may differ.
Predicted Puppy Ancestry
Predicted composition from an 81% Bernese dam and a 49% Bernese sire:
Blue = Bernese Mountain Dog | Gold = Standard Poodle
A Bernese-forward Bernedoodle. Each puppy's actual percentages will vary. Coat follows specific genes, not the percentage, so the coat section below is the better guide to what each puppy will look and feel like.
Coat Character
Both parents test unfurnished (RSPO2 I/I) and long-coated (FGF5 Lh/Lh). Every puppy will inherit the same, so this litter carries a long Bernese-style coat without doodle furnishings.
What owners should expect (Unfurnished Coat)
- Length: Long.
- Texture: About half straight and half wavy (KRT71: George C/C, Clementine C/T).
- Furnishings: None. No puppy will have a doodle beard or eyebrows.
- Shedding: Regular, seasonal shedding. Every puppy inherits at least one copy of the shedding variant (MC5R), and unfurnished coats do not get the lower-shedding effect of furnishings.
- Grooming cadence: Weekly brushing, more during seasonal sheds, and occasional bathing. Wavy coats may need a light trim.
| Sire (George) โ / Dam (Clementine) โ | C | T |
|---|---|---|
| C | C/C (Straight) | C/T (Wavy) |
| C | C/C (Straight) | C/T (Wavy) |
Good fit: Families who want the Bernese look in a Bernedoodle and are comfortable with a shedding coat. If low shedding is a priority, ask us about a furnished pairing instead. Every Stokeshire breeding dog's coat genetics are tested through Embark before a pairing is planned, and families can review the results on the parents' public Embark profiles.
Color Genetics (Interactive)
E Locus (MC1R): Pigment Expression 100% Full Pigment / 100% Red Carriers
George is e/e, which is why his own coat is red. Clementine is E/E. Every puppy inherits one E from Clementine, so every puppy expresses full black pigment. Every puppy also carries one recessive e from George. That matters only for future breeding.
| Sire (George) โ / Dam (Clementine) โ | E | E |
|---|---|---|
| e | E/e | E/e |
| e | E/e | E/e |
K Locus (CBD103): Pattern Expression 100% Patterned (tan points visible)
Both parents are ky/ky. The entire litter inherits ky/ky, which allows the A locus to fully express. Combined with at/at below, every puppy shows the tricolor tan-point pattern.
| Sire (George) โ / Dam (Clementine) โ | ky | ky |
|---|---|---|
| ky | ky/ky | ky/ky |
| ky | ky/ky | ky/ky |
A Locus (ASIP): Black & Tan Pattern 100% Tan Point
Both parents are at/at. Combined with ky/ky, every puppy expresses tan points at the eyebrows, muzzle, chest, and legs against a dark base. Shade of the tan points varies by puppy, from tan to deep rust.
About half the litter inherits Clementine's saddle tan variant (RALY N/I). Those puppies may see the tan areas widen with age.
B Locus (TYRP1): Base Pigment Color 100% Black-Based / ~50% Brown Carrier
Clementine is B/B. George is B/b. Every puppy will be black-based because Clementine can only pass B. About half will carry one b allele from George, which matters only for future breeding.
| Sire (George) โ / Dam (Clementine) โ | B | B |
|---|---|---|
| B | B/B | B/B |
| b | B/b | B/b |
Result: No brown or liver puppies in this litter. All puppies will have black noses, eye rims, and footpads.
D Locus (MLPH): Dilute No Dilution Expected
Both parents are D/D. No dilute alleles are present, so no diluted colors (such as charcoal, silver, or Isabella) are possible. All pigment will express at full depth.
M Locus (PMEL): Merle ~50% Merle Carriers / ~50% Non-Merle
George carries one copy of merle (M*/m). It does not show on him because his red coat (e/e) hides the pattern. Clementine carries none (m/m). About half the litter will inherit George's merle. Because every puppy in this litter expresses black pigment, those puppies may show it as blue merle tri. Embark confirms that merle is present but not the length of the insertion, and shorter forms can show faintly or not at all, so how visibly merle each carrier will be is not known yet. Because Clementine carries no merle, a double merle (M*/M*) puppy is not possible in this litter.
| Sire (George) โ / Dam (Clementine) โ | m | m |
|---|---|---|
| M* | M*/m (Merle) | M*/m (Merle) |
| m | m/m (Non-Merle) | m/m (Non-Merle) |
Important for future breeding: A merle puppy from this litter should never be bred to another merle. Double merle carries significant health risks. A puppy with faint or hidden merle can still pass it on, so any puppy considered for breeding should have a merle test that measures allele length first.
Overall Color Phenotype Summary
- Pattern base: 100% of puppies show the tan-point tricolor pattern (at/at, ky/ky).
- Pigment: 100% black-based, with black noses and eye rims. About 50% are brown carriers (B/b).
- Red: No red puppies. Every puppy carries red (E/e).
- Dilution: None. All pigment expresses at full intensity (D/D).
- Merle split: ~50% merle carriers, likely blue merle tri; ~50% black tri. Double merle is not possible.
- White: White trim on the face, chest, and feet varies by puppy.
Overview
- Health: Both parents Embark tested and clear on the 7 conditions Embark lists as breed-relevant for this cross, and both clear on MDR1.
- Diversity: Projected litter COI about 14% (Embark Pair Predictor estimate), within our goal of 15% or under for every pairing.
- Composition: ~65% Bernese Mountain Dog, ~35% Standard Poodle.
- Coat: Long, unfurnished, half straight and half wavy. Sheds seasonally.
- Pattern: 100% tan point. 100% black-based pigment. No dilution. No red.
- Color split: ~50% merle carriers, ~50% black tri.
- Size: Standard.
- Good fit: Families who want the Bernese look in a Bernedoodle and are comfortable with a shedding coat.
Expected Adult Weight
Both parents carry the larger form at nearly every body-size gene Embark tests, so the litter is expected to finish in the Standard class. Adult weight is an estimate rather than a guarantee and may vary based on parentage, sex, generation, and individual development.

Two Pick of the Litter positions are offered for this litter. Stokeshire retains Breeder's Choice and selects first. Pick of the Litter families are then contacted in position order, ahead of the standard waitlist. The full terms of the position are below. An unfurnished Bernedoodle carries two copies of the non-furnishings allele at RSPO2, so it keeps a smooth muzzle, a Bernese look, and sheds more than a furnished doodle. The complete reference lives in the Bernedoodle guide.
